The base ball season in Streator was yesterday afternoon, at the ball park, under the most favorable circ*mstances, the Reds being pitted against the Kewanee team. It was an ideal day for the sport, the attendance was and the grounds were in good condition, especially the diamond, which had been covered over with a thin layer of sand and then rolled.

The game was too Jopsided to be very interesting, but the visitors made a very fair showing despite the that they lost by a score of 2. to 8. fact, home team put up a very clean game, notwithstanding the fact that the boys had had. little, if any practice, collectively or individually. Martin Malloy, a son of the park policeman, 18 now lying in the county hospital at Chicago, with one foot off between the knee and ankle. The accident, the which foot resulted happened in on the the amputa- third of last month. The young man was employed as night watchman for the Alton railroad, it being his business to ride trains in and out of the city. On the above date he had boarded a train to ride from the suburbs to the city. While he was hanging onto a car a brakeman came along and thrust his lantern into Malloy's face.

This action of the railroadman caused the watchman to lose his hold and he fell under the moving cars. His foot was crushed to such an extent that it was necessary to cut half of it off. About a week ago the second amputation was made to prevent blood poisoning from spreading Officer Malloy and his son, Richard, who is here on a visit from Ruby, went to Chicago Saturday to see Martin, Jr. They found him getting along nicely. Martin, Sr.

My health was never better. We found several in the snow alive and nearly full grown. One bear and two cariboo were killed near our camp yesterday. The snow is melting some now and the trail is getting very bad. They thought he bud been seized with a cramp. Then he found that, he could not move and as he was carried out of the arena the most intense excitement prevailed among the large, audience.
