Terence Crawford delivers brutally honest take on Tim Tszyu's defeat (2025)

Terence Crawford did not hold back when delivering his opinion on Tim Tszyu's shock dismantling by Bakhram Murtazaliev.

The defeat means the Australian star has now lost both of his last two fights, with questions now hanging over what the 29-year-old's next career move will be.

Murtazaliev produced a dominant performance to retain his IBF super welterweight title, coming out of the blocks in the opening round to land some brutal punches on his opponent.

His barrage of strikes kept coming and Tszyu looked sluggish, being dropped to the canvas three times in the second round.

The Russian boxer would continue to press on his opponent into the third round, landing a crushing left hook to the side of Tszyu's head, sending him crashing to the canvas for the fourth time. Gallantly, Tszyu attempted to continue, but looked jaded by the punch, with his team subsequently throwing in the towel.

Some took to social media to question the Australian's performance, with Crawford, appearing to hit out at the Aussie boxer claiming he had underestimated his opponent, publishing a string of unfiltered posts on X (formerly Twitter).

During the bout, he wrote 'stop the fight' and 'lol giving Tim time is crazy,' before delivering his opinion on the fight after Tszyu's team had thrown in the towel.

'Tim thought he had an easy one,' Crawford wrote on X.

'Took this dude lightly and was worried about other fighters.'

Some fans hit back at Crawford after posting the message online, with one writing: 'Mr. Glassjaw Crawford. You already ducked Fundora and won't go near Bakhram now.'

'Bruv you shouldn't be talking you barely got through [Israil] Madrimov,' another said.

But some agreed with Crawford's opinion, with the Courier Mail's Peter Badel stating on Main Event's coverage.

'I thought Tim was a little bit arrogant early,' Badel said.

'I don't think Tim earned the right in this fight to dominate. He just thought he could walk him down.

'When he fought Mendoza, he took his time. He was watchful early and then in the third and fourth round he started to apply the pressure.

'But in this round he tried to bang early and Bakhram Murtazaliev landed three or four times. This is a devastating loss for Tim Tszyu.

'I'm shocked at how Tim fought that fight. He's normally such a great executioner, so disciplined with his boxing IQ. But tonight I thought his brain went out the window for brawn. You don't fight fire with fire with Bakhram Murtazaliez. I think it was the wrong tactic, it was a tactical blunder.'

After the bout, a stunned Tszyu admitted that he was beaten by a better fighter on the night.

'What the f*** just happened?' Tszyu, who was in disbelief, said.

'What did I get hit with? Couldn't regroup and... I don't know man. S*** doesn't go your way and you just have to bounce back you know.

'I was positive after Fundora.'

The result means Tszyu has now lost both of his last two fights with the Australian conceding that Murtazaliev was the better fighter on the night.

He added: 'This didn't go according to script. It was a little bit different. I felt unbelievable to be honest with you. I felt I had a great prep.

'So he got me, man. He was the better man on the night and we live and we learn.'

Crawford published multiple posts on X (formerly Twitter) during the bout, before writing: 'Tim thought he had an easy one'

Some though questioned his comment, with one going as far as calling him 'Mr Glassjaw'

Former welterweight world champion Andre Berto questioned why Tszyu came back following his previous defeat to fightMurtazaliev

Others took to social media to also share their disbelief, including former two-time former welterweight world champion, Andre Berto.

'Who in the hell's bright idea was it to match Tim Tszyu with this big a** undefeated Russian pit bull for a comeback fight after a lost smh,' Berto said, before adding: 'Now that was just dumb!!'
